The Duck Egg Cafe

I stumbled upon this little cafe at the weekend while in Brixton. We were originally looking for a boozy brunch place to sip on unlimited Bloody Mary’s, but my friend said she’d heard good things as we walked past, so decided to head there. The weather was the last little glimpse of Summer, so we sat outside basking in the summer, topping up my already indian tan. For only a small cafe on a busy road, I’m not sure what I was expecting, but it was definitely a pleasant surprise! The menu ranged from all day breakfasts to eggs Benedict and everything in in between. I went for a Bloody Mary of course and annoyingly, for the life of me, can’t remember what breakfast I actually got. All I know was the the name pop-eye got a mention. IMG_1113It consisted of cheese melted onto granary bread with duck egg (hence the name), spinach, mushrooms, and tomato. And it was the absolute tastiest thing I have had for breakfast in a while! The portion size was huge and everything was so flavoursome!

Lucy got poached eggs with bacon and a hash brown. Now I’m not a massive hash brown lover, but even I was tempted by it. So crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It didn’t look soggy like what you’d usually see.

It might not look like much, but it was honestly so good and I would so go again! If you’re ever in the area pop on by!
